Is There a Ceasefire Between Israel and Iran?

Earlier today, U.S. President Donald Trump announced a ceasefire between Iran and Israel. The news came after nearly two weeks of missile strikes and rising fears of a wider war in the Middle East, but is it really true?

Shortly after the ceasefire was announced Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz took to social media to accuse Iran of violating the truce. In a statement posted on X, Katz said he had instructed the Israel Defense Forces in coordination with Prime Minister Netanyahu, “to respond forcefully” to Iran’s actions. He accused Iran of launching missiles toward Israel despite the ceasefire declaration by U.S. President Donald Trump, and warned that Israel would respond forcefully to any violation.

Iran has denied breaking the ceasefire, officials in Tehran pointed the finger at Israel claiming it was the one that continued to carry out attacks on Iranian-linked sites in Syria and Iraq. According to a statement shared by state media, Iran’s armed forces accused Israel of violating the truce three times by striking various locations up until 9 a.m. that morning. Iranian officials insisted their own actions were strictly a response to Israeli aggression and not the start of a new round of hostilities.

Meanwhile Iran has fired missiles at the U.S. military base in Qatar. Qatar’s army said most of the missiles were stopped by their defense systems, and only one hit the base causing no injuries. The U.S. said it got a warning before the attack so people had time to take cover. President Trump called the strike a “very weak response.”

So, is there really a ceasefire between Israel and Iran? Technically yes a ceasefire was announced, but in reality both sides are still fighting.
